Eva Vermeeren is Tirzah-Quartet's violin player and brings her passionate playing to the ensemble.
Eva started her musical career at the Academy of her town of birth, Turnhout. Later on she studied at the Academy of Antwerp at which she received her golden medal with greatest distinction. In 1994 she graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with a first prize in violin and chamber music with great distinction with D. Mijajev. Se continued her studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Philip Hirshorn and got her Master Diploma in Violin in 1996.
After her studies in Belgium Eva perfectionized herself abroad and got a Violin Performance Diploma at the Peabody Conservatory of the John Hopkins University in Baltimore (U.S.) with V. Melançon. In the United States Eva performed as a soloist, in duo with pianist Jesus Gomez, as a member of the chamber orchestra of Philadelphia Concerto Soloist, the opera company Academy of Vocal Arts and the string quartet Elixir (Philadelphia). She also worked as a teacher at the music college in Trappe, Pennsylvania.
She performed at different international festivals such as the famous Princeton Opera Festival in New Jersey and chamber music festivals in Vermont (US), Santander and Lausanne.
Since her return to Belgium in 2000 she played in different orchestras such as the Filharmonie van Antwerpen, the Vlaams Radio Orkest, the Nationaal Orkest, the Vlaamse Opera and as a member of the chamber orchestra the Beethoven Academie. But nevertheless she had her main activity in chamber music. In 2000 she became cofounder and leader of the string orchestra De Turnhoutse Snaar and played with pianist Kim van den Brempt in the duo Amabile (concerts in Germany, France, the Benelux, among which a live concert for Radio Klara, a concert for Queen Fabiola and a cd-recording Amabile). From 2003 on she also became a member of the Kryptos String Quartet (they gave concerts for the Festival van Vlaanderen, Radio Klara in Het Paleis, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland and they got into the semi-final at the famous Shostakovitch String Quartet Competition in Moscow.
In 2005 Eva became first violinist in the Kirke String Quartet (with a series of concerts with the programme ‘Jacht en Verleiding’;a two year tour trough Europe, Canada, Russia and the Middle East with Alain Platel’s Les Ballets C. De la B. in the production Import/Export supervised by choreographer Koen Augustijnen and in cooperation with contra tenor Steve Dujardin (2006-2008); recording of a live cd for Les Ballets C.de la B. (2007), live performance on Radio 1, dance performance ‘De Opwachting’ with music by Philip Glass. ..)
That same year she also founded the female string orchestra Donnacorda.
Eva followed several masterclasses with great personalities such as H. Krebbers, C. Serban, B. Kaplan, P. Vernikov, M. Lubotsky, C. Romano, E. Kawaguti, A. Leon Ara, U. Gorniak, C. Maycomber and M. Fatkulin. With her quartet she studied with the Alban Berg Quartet, the Keller Quartet, G. Kurtàg and the Danel Quartet, at the Orpheus Institute in Ghent and the famous Koningin Elisabeth Chapel in Brussels.
Eva is not only active in the world of classical music, but she has also earned her merits in the world of pop music. Till 2007 she played the violin and sang the backing vocals in the band Les Talons Gitans. She worked together with famous artists for concerts and recordings : Björk, Toots Tielemans, Kenny werner, Jack Van Poll, Ozark Henry, Kanye West, Deus, Axelle Red, Stephen Warbeck’s film music for the Hessen Affaire (a.o.), Scala, Zornik, Soulbob, Mira, Gijsman, Pieter Embrechts, soundtrack of Ex-Drummer, Brian Clifton’s film music (Droomtijd a.o.) (solo and quartet)….
